The Aylesbury Series

(05 Nov 2009)

From Greens first initial sketches, of an unfamiliar location the Aylesbury series was created. While the architecture of Aylesbury to many may seem ordinary, and so found in many a small town, Aylesbury has retained some very fine examples of architecture and architectural detail from the medieval, Georgian and victorian periods, as well as the 20th Century.

Courthouse and Market square, John Vanbrugh judged two sets of plans for the Courthouse, however, the buildings of the town were designed by local architects.

St Mary's square, St Mary's church, sited upon a hill surrounded by narrow streets and squares of substantial 18th century town houses, such as Castle Street, Temple Square, Parson's Fee and St Mary's square gives a good indication of how Aylesbury may have appeared in the 18th century.

It was from these examples that Green wanted to create a series of works, mis-located, melded and fused, to create the Aylesbury series.
A celebration of Aylesbury's natural and built environment.
